Chainette Exhibition
Rennes and Chainette are two sculptural graphic curtains designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. They share the same base pattern, which was originally designed for a partition at an exhibition of their work in Rennes, France.
Chainette is embroidered with braids that follow the contour of Rennes' stripes. The tactile braids give Chainette an understated, playful three-dimensional character - and its name. Chainette means"small chain"in French.
As conditions change throughout the day, Rennes and Chainette play with light and shadow, consistently revealing new and subtle nuances. This effect is enhanced when they are draped. Rennes and Chainette also share a handcrafted expression that is accentuated by small irregularities in their surface. Although produced using the most accurate production methods, random elements and loose threads cannot always be avoided and are the result of the curtains' complex construction.
